HMMM.. Lesson 2 of Japanese with me?!
Lesson 1 of Japanese with Christine was OMOTENASHI. How many of you retained that bit?
Today, I think I’ll go with the Japanese-y way of saying “Long time no see” or “It’s been awhile.”
There’s several ways to say this and I’ll introduce the polite way, vs. the casual way.
Polite way:
-Gobusata shite orimasu.
ご無沙汰しております。
-Ohisashiburi desu.
お久しぶりです。
Casual way:
-Hisashiburi!
久しぶり!
Super-casual:
-Ohisa!
お久!
So next time you see a business contact you hadn’t seen in awhile, try saying, “Gobusata shite orimasu!” You’ll leave them impressed!
If you want to go a little further and ask how they’ve been doing, say:
Polite way:
Ogenki desuka ?
お元気ですか?
Casual way:
Genki!?
元気!?
Next time, I’ll try to think of some useful phrases we can challenge ourselves on using while ON TOUR! 🙂
And if there’s anyone out there that wants to know how to say something in a natural way, let me know down below! Do keep in mind though, I don’t consider myself a complete bilingual, but I will do my best to help! ^^
Until next time, バイバイ〜!👋
